Horde race

Skyborne (Windshaper)

Windshapers are the Horde Skyborne, shen'dorei with a haste bonus, a glide and a run-speed blessing, and the only Skyborne who can be Shamans.

Overview

Windshaper brings a permanent 3% haste bonus to melee, ranged and spell attacks. That is useful for every class it can play. Elemental Insight adds 5% damage against Elementals.

Walk on Air lets you glide downward for 10 seconds while you steer. Skysight raises run speed and mounted speed by 10%. It lasts 15 minutes if an elemental convergence is nearby when you cast it, and 30 seconds if not.

Windshaper can be a Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid or Shaman. Shaman is open only to Windshapers among the Skyborne. Druid forms are customised for the race.

Racial abilities

RacialTypeWhat it does
Walk on Airactive

Glide downward through the air for 10 sec while controlling your direction of travel.

What to know: A safe fall and a shortcut off cliffs while levelling or exploring. It also helps you cross gaps.

Skysightactive

Attempt to draw power from a convergence of elements and receive its blessing, increasing your movement and mounted movement speeds by 10%. Lasts 30 sec if no elemental convergence is nearby, and 15 min if one is found.

What to know: Cast it near an elemental convergence for a long levelling speed boost. Elsewhere it is a short sprint.

Wind Blessedpassive

Increases your spellcasting, melee, and ranged Haste by 3%.

What to know: Always on. It helps Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, Druids and Shamans by speeding auto-attacks and cast-time spells.

Elemental Insightpassive

Damage dealt versus Elementals increased by 5%.

What to know: Helps in zones and dungeons with many Elementals. It has little effect elsewhere.

Best classes for Skyborne (Windshaper)

  • Druid: Wind Blessed's 3% haste helps Restoration, Cat and Balance Druids alike.
  • Shaman: A strong Restoration pick, and the haste suits any Shaman.
  • Rogue: Haste speeds white hits and poison procs (likely).
  • Hunter: Haste applies to Auto Shot (likely).

Lore

The Skyborne are shen'dorei, a branch of high elves. The Windshapers descend from the first shen'dorei to receive the gift of elemental skysight from the wind spirits.

They come from a home in Skywall. A new generation of Windshapers is called to Azeroth to learn what became of their missing elemental mentors, and to restore the wind spirits.

Blizzard's article gives no more detail on their culture or their relations with the other Horde races.

Good to know

  • Skyborne is a new race for Forever, with its own starting zone and its own mounts.
  • Skyborne needs the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition.
  • The Alliance version, High Order, replaces Skysight with Read Ley Line and can be a Mage instead of a Shaman.
