Druid guide

Levels above 30 are untested theorycraft.

Client build 1.60.1.70425 · updated

At a glance

The Druid is Forever's four-role hybrid: a bear tank, a cat melee spec, a Balance caster and a Restoration healer, all from three talent trees.

How this works

Forever makes shapeshifting far smoother than Classic: potions (mana potions too), racials and weapon enchants work in form, Faerie Fire and Barkskin are free in form, and every spec gets new signature talents (Berserk, Wild Growth, Eclipse). The price is utility: Blizzard says Druids "cannot snare targets, cannot Silence or Interrupt", and bear threat is the beta's open question; Bear and Dire Bear threat is +50% and Rage from damage taken works, but nobody has tested a pack pull since.

What Forever changed

Every spell, new and changed ones marked, by spec: Balance, Feral Cat, Feral Bear, Restoration.

Strengths

  • Can fill any role, and switch in an emergency: tank a mob in Bear, throw a heal, or res a player.
  • Two resurrections: Rebirth in combat and Revive out of it.
  • Brings Mark of the Wild (1 hour), Innervate, curse and poison removal, Faerie Fire and a party crit aura.
  • The best mobility in the game: Travel Form at 30, Prowl, Dash, Cat speed from Feral Swiftness indoors too, and every shift breaks roots and snares.
  • Very little downtime: HoTs and self-heals between pulls, and mana regenerates while you fight in form.

Gaps you plan around

  • No reliable interrupt, no silence and no snare. The Bear Feral Charge tooltip says it interrupts, but Blizzard says Druids can't; treat it as untested.
  • Bear threat was weak in player reports after the first fixes. Bear Form's threat bonus is now +50%, Rage from damage taken works and Demoralizing Roar causes threat; no player has reported a pack pull since. Swipe's 3% attack-power scaling is small and Feral Instinct no longer adds threat.
  • Hybrid DPS is tuned about 5% below the pure classes, and cats have no cleave by design: Warriors are "the kings of cleave".
  • No magic or disease removal; crowd control is roots, Hibernate on beasts and dragonkin, and Bash.
  • Levels 1 to 10 are slow: you fight with Wrath and Moonfire until Bear Form.

Races

RaceFaction What it brings a Druid
Night ElfAllianceElune's Light (+10% crit to spells and attacks for 15 s) and Shadowmeld both work in form; Shadowmeld drops threat in combat. Quickness adds 1% dodge, makes Prowl a level harder to see, and its speed increase stacks with other movement speed increases. The consensus Alliance pick.
Skyborne (High Order)AllianceNew. Starts on Zephras Isle. Wind Blessed (+3% haste), Elemental Insight (+5% damage to Elementals), Walk on Air (a glide; 90 s cooldown) and Read Ley Line (+100% health and mana regeneration: 15 s, or 15 min at a ley line; castable while moving, minimum duration 30 s per Blizzard). Suggested for Restoration. Needs the Skyborne Heroic Pack.
TaurenHordeWar Stomp (2 s stun on up to 5 enemies, 90 s cooldown) works in Bear Form: the closest thing a Druid has to a group interrupt. Endurance gives +5% health and +2% critical damage and healing, but is mis-scaled in forms in the beta. Plainsrunning helps outside forms, and needs real movement to keep its effect.
Skyborne (Windshaper)HordeNew. As High Order, but Skysight (+10% movement and mounted speed) instead of Read Ley Line; Skysight is castable while moving. Needs the Skyborne Heroic Pack.

How to read the labels

Outlined labels say how sure a claim is:

  • Live in beta in a beta build, with its date
  • Announced Blizzard said so; not in a build yet
  • Unconfirmed in client data or one guide only
  • Rumoured no primary source
  • Classic Classic Era behaviour no Forever source confirms or contradicts

Filled labels say what changed since Classic Era:

  • New not in Classic Era
  • Changed numbers or effects differ from Classic Era
  • Now baseline was a talent in Classic Era, now trained
  • Earlier learned at a lower level than in Classic
  • Talent comes from a talent
  • As Classic as in Classic Era
