World of Warcraft: Forever · class guide
Hunter: Rare pets
Where and when to tame the rare, elite and quest-spawned beasts worth having, from level 9 to 60.
How this works
The faction toggle hides beasts in the other side's starting zones.
Your faction
Hunting a rare
Rares respawn on long, uneven timers (The
Rake: about 25–30 minutes in Classic reports). Stable the main pet before you go looking, so you can tame the moment it appears; another Hunter may be waiting too. Tame from range with traps down, and keep
Freezing Trap ready if your group pulls it.
Special pets
Fastest swings
- Broken Tooth (cat, Badlands, 37): 1.0 sec, the best damage pet you can tame in the open world.
- Zul'Gurub bats: 1.0 sec, but only inside the raid at 60.
- 1.2 sec: The Rake (Mulgore, 10), Starving and Feral Mountain Lions (Hillsbrad, 23–28), Spiteflayer (Blasted Lands, 52), Deathmaw (Burning Steppes, 53).
- 1.3 sec: Mist Howler, Humar,
Ravage, Darkshore Moonstalkers, the Durotar Tiger.
One tame, two abilities
- Worg: Bite 2 and Furious Howl 1 (unconfirmed; the Prairie Wolf Alpha came with Bite 2 only in the beta)
- Death Flayer:
Claw 2 and Scorpid Poison 1 - Ghostpaw Alpha: Bite 4 and Furious Howl 2
- Vale Screecher: Dive 2 and Lightning Breath 4
- Grunter:
Charge 5 and
Dash 3 - Bloodaxe Worg: Bite 8 and Furious Howl 4
- Arash-ethis: Lightning Breath 5 and Dive 2
Unique looks
- Fox (Vuldren, Zephras Isle): the new family, Skyborne start zone only.
- Sian-Rotam: a white lion that appears after Shy-Rotam dies (Winterspring, 60).
- Sewer Beast: a white crocolisk in the Stormwind canals (50).
- Uhk'loc: a white gorilla in Un'Goro (52).
- Rak'Shiri and Shy-Rotam: aqua saber cats (Winterspring).
Not tameable
- Ghost Howl (Mulgore), Young Arikara, Felinni, Enraged Panther, Duskwing, Great Cat Spirit and Core Hounds.
- Exotic families (Chimaera, Devilsaur, Spirit Beast) aren't in Forever.
Rares and named beasts
Coordinates are where Classic data puts the spawn; check them in game. Rows above your level are dimmed: you can't tame above your own level. A quest-spawned beast you tame gives no quest kill.
