Warrior: Shouts & stances

Client build 1.60.1.70425 · updated

What a Warrior brings to a group and what it has to borrow.

How this works

Each stance unlocks its own buttons; Tactical Mastery keeps 10 rage when you swap (25 with Improved Tactical Mastery). Shouts reach your party, and Booming Voice widens them and makes them cheaper.

Stances

Defensive Stance comes from the level-10 class quest and Berserker Stance from the level-30 one [Classic]. Thunder Clap now works in Defensive Stance as well as Battle Stance.

IconAbilityLevelWhat it does
Battle Stance1

A balanced combat stance.

Defensive Stance10

A defensive combat stance. Decreases damage taken by 10% and damage caused by 10%. Increases all threat generated by 30%.

What to know: Thunder Clap now works in it, and Vanguard adds Charge.

Berserker Stance30

An aggressive stance. Critical strike chance increased by 3% and all damage taken is increased by 10%.

What to know: Learned at 30 from the class quest [Classic].

Shouts

Battle Shout was cut and Demoralizing Shout strengthened; both last longer than in Classic.

IconAbilityLevelWhat it does
Battle Shout1

The warrior shouts, increasing the melee attack power of all party or raid members within 20 yards by 139. Lasts 3 min.

What to know: Cut to 139 attack power at rank 7 (Classic 232), lasting 3 minutes. Improved Battle Shout is baked in. Booming Voice widens it and makes it cheaper. Raid wide.

Demoralizing Shout14

Reduces the melee attack power of all enemies within 10 yards by 204 for 45 sec.

What to know: 204 attack power for 45 seconds at rank 5 (Classic 146 for 30 seconds): the old Improved Demoralizing Shout is baked in. Threat: it puts some threat on every enemy it hits. How much is not stated.

Intimidating Shout22

The warrior shouts, causing the targeted enemy to cower in fear. Up to 5 enemies within 8 yds will flee in fear. Lasts 8 sec.

What to know: The client marks its numbers and wording as changed from Classic: 5 enemies within 8 yards flee for 8 seconds.

Challenging Shout26

Forces all nearby enemies within 10 yards to focus attacks on you for 6 sec.

Big cooldowns

Shield Wall, Retaliation and Recklessness no longer share a cooldown.

IconAbilityLevelWhat it does
Retaliation20

Instantly counterattack any enemy that strikes you in melee for 15 sec. Melee attacks made from behind cannot be counterattacked. A maximum of 30 attacks will cause retaliation.

What to know: 15-minute cooldown (Classic 30), no longer shared.

Last Stand20talent

When activated, this ability temporarily grants you 30% of your maximum health for 20 sec. After the effect expires, the health is lost.

What to know: Protection's 11-point talent, now on a 3-minute cooldown (Classic 10).

Shield Wall28

Reduces the damage taken from all attacks by 60% for 12 sec.

What to know: 60% less damage for 12 seconds on a 15-minute cooldown (Classic 75% for 10 seconds, 30 minutes). Improved Shield Wall takes it to 4 minutes. No longer shares a cooldown with Retaliation or Recklessness.

Death Wish30talent

When activated, increases your Physical damage done by 20% and makes you immune to Fear effects, but increases all damage you take by 5%. Lasts 30 sec.

What to know: Fury's 21-point talent. +20% physical damage and fear immunity for 30 seconds, but you take 5% more damage (Classic lowered armour and resistances). It is the gate to Flurry.

Recklessness50

The warrior will gain 100% increased critical strike chance and will be immune to Fear effects for the next 15 sec, but all damage taken is increased by 20%.

What to know: Still 30 minutes, on purpose: Blizzard tested shorter big cooldowns and Warriors did far too much damage. No longer shares a cooldown.

What a Warrior lacks

  • No dispel or cure (Shield Slam can purge one magic buff).
  • No resurrection and no heal for anyone else.
  • No summon: only Warlocks summon in Forever.
