Paladin: Changes

What has changed for the Paladin in the Forever beta, newest first. The rest of this guide describes the class as it plays now (client build 1.60.1.70450).

Last updated , checked 2026-10-16.

  • : Ruthless changed to 2% critical strike chance, replacing Sword Specialization.
  • : Earth Fury changed to 2% critical damage and healing, replacing Mace Specialization.
  • : Find Treasure now also finds extra items in most chests.
  • : Touch of the Grave was changed to a 20% chance for Paladins with a 25 second internal cooldown.
  • : Righteous Fury went back to 90% more Holy threat; it had been 60% since 24 Sep.
  • : Salvation stopped being a Blessing, Mass Salvation became the raid version, and Paladins learned Revoke (build 70425).
  • : Champion of the Light was cut again, to 10/20/30% of your Intellect.
  • : Sanctified Judgement's mana return stopped generating threat.
  • : Shield Specialization's mana restore on block was cut from 6% to 4% of max mana.
  • : Reckoning was fixed: each trigger adds a charge (up to 4) and your next melee swing fires them all, so instant attacks no longer reset your swing timer.
  • : Will of the Forsaken became usable again while asleep or charmed.
  • : Retribution Aura (build 70291) was fixed to use your spell power instead of the target's, but its base damage went back to Vanilla values and its spell-power ratio fell from 13.3% to 6%.
  • : Seal of Fury stopped returning mana without Improved Seal of Fury, and the mana it restores stopped generating threat (build 70291).
  • : The mana Shield Specialization restores stopped generating threat (build 70291).
  • : Reckoning's extra attack was limited to once every 1.5 seconds (build 70291).
  • : Dungeon quest XP was cut; it still pays about 2.2 times Classic's.
  • : Known issue: enemies can parry and block from behind at close range.
  • : Respawn rates were raised in Hillsbrad, Ashenvale, Wetlands, Duskwood and Thousand Needles.
  • : Ranks far below your level began to get less from healing power and to proc talents less often.
  • : Redoubt was cut from 6–30% to 4–20% block.
  • : Holy Shield block chance was raised from 20% to 30%.
  • : Champion of the Light was cut from 33/66/100% to 20/40/60% of your Intellect.
  • : Righteous Fury was cut from 90% to 60% more Holy threat.
  • : Crusade was removed.
  • : Holy Strike's cooldown was cut from 12 to 10 seconds.
  • : Blizzard fixed Consecration failing to apply its increased damage to some targets.
  • : Sacred Arbiter was raised from 10% to 20%.
  • : Vengeance was cut to 3 stacks, and only non-periodic crits start it.
  • : Two-Handed Weapon Specialization was cut from 3/6/9% to 2/4/6%.

Still open

  • Hammer of the Righteous: in the client at level 40 and linked to the Protection skill line, but with Season of Discovery's tooltip. Is it really trained at 40?
  • Improved Seal of Fury: the tooltip still says it restores 0 mana. Does a fully absorbed shield return mana (Blizzard's notes say the talent is the only source now)?
  • Undead mounts: the level-40 and level-60 quests are announced but not in the data.
  • Seal of Righteousness and weapon speed: the tooltip says slower weapons hit harder; a player test says the spell-power part doesn't scale with speed.
  • Paladin class blog: promised by Blizzard; not posted when last checked.
  • Everything above level 30 is untested until the beta cap rises.
  • Blizzard's deep dive vs the client: Iron Creed threat 15% or 25%, Instrument of Law on Holy Wrath or Hammer of Wrath, and Holy Conduit with or without Hammer of Wrath. The client values are shown until a tooltip in game settles it. (Champion of the Light agreed with the article: 30%.)
