Alliance race
Gnome
Small, brilliant tinkerers with extra resources, a strong escape and a damage window, and a natural fit for casters and Rogues.
Overview
Gnomes can be Warriors, Rogues, Priests, Mages and Warlocks. Gnome Priest is a combination that is new in Forever. Expansive Mind raises your maximum Mana by 5% for Priests, Mages and Warlocks, your maximum Energy by 5% for Rogues and your maximum Rage by 5% for Warriors.
Eureka! lowers the resource cost of your damaging abilities by 10% and raises their damage by 10% for 8 seconds, on a 2 minute cooldown. Priests get the effect on healing and Power Word: Shield too. Periodic effects, such as damage over time, do not benefit, and neither do channeled spells. Escape Artist removes all movement-impairing effects and makes you immune to them for 3 seconds.
Engineering Specialization makes engineering devices fail or backfire 20% less often. Gnome Priests have Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan.

| active | Your non-periodic damaging abilities have their Energy cost reduced by 10% and deal 10% more damage. What to know: Use it on direct-damage rotations and big cooldowns. Strongest for Mages and Rogues, and for Warlocks and Priests who use direct spells. | |
| active | Instantly escape the effects of any movement impairing effect and gain immunity to those effects for 3 sec. What to know: Good against roots and slows while leveling and in dungeons, especially for casters and Rogues. | |
| passive | Your gnomish ingenuity reduces the rate of engineering devices failing or backfiring when you use them by 20%. What to know: Only relevant for Engineers. Helps with dangerous gadgets and bombs. |
Best classes for Gnome
- Mage: The bigger mana pool and Eureka! suit direct-damage Mages, and Escape Artist frees them from roots.
- Warlock: Likely a good fit for Destruction and Demonology, with a larger mana pool and a damage window on direct spells.
- Priest: Confounding Flash, Contingency Plan and a larger mana pool suit Holy; Eureka! can boost direct healing.
- Rogue: Likely a good pick: Eureka! cuts energy cost and raises direct damage, and Escape Artist breaks slows.
Lore
Gnomes are small, inventive people who care more for gadgets, invention and tinkering than anything else. Their origins go back to the titans, who made the mechagnomes and, through a curse of flesh, the gnomes. Their love of machines and curiosity define them.
Their city, Gnomeregan, lies in the mountains of Dun Morogh, in the lands of Khaz Modan. In the time of the original game it has been taken over by the troggs, and it has been poisoned by the radiation that the traitorous Mekgineer Thermaplugg released while trying to drive the invaders out. The survivors, led by High Tinker Mekkatorque, fled to Ironforge, where they live in Tinker Town, and work to retake their home.
Gnomes joined the Alliance in the Second War. They are close allies of the dwarves, and their inventions, from flying machines to explosives, are part of the Alliance war effort. They also have an interest in the arcane, so they often become Mages and Warlocks.
The gnomes are cheerful and sometimes absent-minded, and they live in a world of devices that do not always work. They speak Gnomish.
