Demonology Warlock

Client build 1.60.1.70425 · updated

Ranged damage

The safest way to level: a tougher demon, Soul Link and Demonic Brand for pet threat. At 60, the sacrifice-and-swap spec Blizzard built Demonic Pact for.

Demonology makes your demon stronger and keeps it alive: Unholy Power, Fel Vitality and Demonic Energies, which heals it from your spell damage. Soul Link at 21 points sends 30% of your damage taken to the demon, and Demonic Brand turns Searing Pain into a way to hand threat to it. At 60 the plan is the stack Blizzard described on the podcast: sacrifice one demon with Demonic Sacrifice for 2 hours, then summon a different one, and Demonic Pact keeps the sacrifice while Master Demonologist adds the other demon's bonus.

Stat priority

  1. Spell power
  2. Hit
  3. Intellect
  4. Critical strike
  5. Spirit
  6. Haste
  7. Stamina

Your demon scales with your gear, so spell power raises its damage too. Demonic Knowledge adds spell damage equal to up to your level while a demon is out.

Do this

  • Take Demonic Energies early: it heals the demon from your damage, which saves resummons and shards.
  • Keep Soul Link up from 30; it makes you much harder to kill. Players reported that it applies no buff (unconfirmed by Blizzard). The latest fix, for "you couldn't cast Soul Link on your pet", may be that bug, so recheck the buff icon and the damage your demon takes before you rely on it.
  • Use Fel Domination for a fast resummon in combat rather than running away.
  • Plan your 60 sacrifice: Imp for Shadow builds, Succubus for Fire builds, then the other one out.

Watch out for

  • Resummoning the sacrificed demon cancels Demonic Sacrifice, even with Demonic Pact.
  • The Imp was nerfed on purpose; don't expect it to carry damage.
  • Every demon but the Imp costs a soul shard to summon.
  • Demonic Brand's branded attacks also deal extra Fire or Shadow damage, but its value is the threat, not the damage. Only Shadow damage is high threat, so the Voidwalker gets it and the Fire-damage Imp does not.
  • Your current demon is stunned while you summon a new one: don't swap pets in the middle of a fight.
